Projektbeschreibung der*des Nominierenden
Using electric fish and birds as animal models, Prof. Carr has shown that the nervous system can encode time differences in stimuli down into the microsecond range - that is, a few millionths of a second! She is a recognized authority on how the brain uses these tiny differences between the stimuli at the two ears to localize a sound source. She has highlighted the cellular specializations and the salient connections between nerve cells which together achieve this amazing feat. During her Humboldt stay in Germany, Prof. Carr will work in Munich and Aachen and conduct experiments addressing the evolution of the sound localization systems in birds and mammals. |
